A. Faith Arts Editing Style
Editing is a huge part of photography that tends to go unnoticed. A lot of time is spent behind the computer making your photos picture perfect, but what exactly happens behind the screen?! That's what we are here to talk about. Take a look below to learn more about everything that goes into our personal editing style.
What is the significance of an editing style?
- Each photography business has a different style of editing. We use editing to add our own personal and creative vision to your photos. It is important to pick your photographer based on their personal style. When you LOVE your photographer's editing there is no need to change it yourself. Changing a photo your photographer edited causes a misrepresentation of their work and can change the professional quality. We always make sure our editing is consistent and high quality!
What is our style?
- Our editing style is bold but true to tone. We make sure your skin looks like your actual skin color, but also make other colors pop and stand out! Our edits tend to have warm tones, however, this can change by the location or season. For example, if you are at the beach, you will naturally have more blue tones from the blue water reflections, or if you have a sunset session then your tones will naturally be warm and golden. We love our editing to be natural, while still bold. Take a look at this little one's blue eyes, they stand out but are still his natural color!
Who does the editing? What products do they use?
- Angela does all of A. Faith Arts editing. We do this for consistency and branding. Editing is subjective and we value having consistent editing in our bold, true tones.
- We cull (which means sorting photos) and edit in Adobe Lightroom. We have created our own customized presents to help us work quickly and consistently through images. For more intense edits, like face swaps or final brush work edits, we run our photos through Adobe Photoshop. Then, we add in a few timeless black-and-white photos of some of our favorite photos from the gallery. Finally, we export and send the gallery your way!
What all do you change?
- For our subjects, we like to follow a "few day" rule. If you have blemishes or scratches that will go away in a few days, we will adjust and smooth these out. However, we are big on body positivity and don't alter your natural body. We always make sure you look like your beautiful self!
- When it comes to our photos, we always color-correct to follow our "bold" editing style that we love so much. We also include other basic editing, like cropping. Believe it or not, cropping makes a huge difference.
How long does it take to get the final edits?
- Our editing takes up to 3 weeks for regular session and up to 8 weeks for wedding. We know how excited you are to get your photos! We want to make sure your photos are up to our AFA standards! We insure the best quality every time you receive a gallery from us. We always say for every 1 hour of shooting, is 3 hours of editing.
- We are careful in our process to make sure each photo is consistent and perfected, this may take longer than a typical edit. Take a look at this wedding photo below. We took the the distractions of the telephone lines to take it from a good photo to a GREAT photo!
What else can change the look of my photos?
- Location, scenery, time of day, and season can change how your end result looks! Although we love our consistent editing style, we know there will be changes based on the location/season. For example, take a look at these 3 photos below. You can see the differences between our spring, winter, and fall photos! While they all hold the same "bold" editing style, the location/season truly makes a difference!
